These projects involved repairs due to bugs, water, improper

design or construction, lack of maintenance, and/or related causes.

  • Bridgewater, NJ - Many of the homes in the Bradley Gardens section of Bridgewater were built from the 1920's as seasonal vacation cottages, and evolved into full-time residences.  At that time, with no building code in place, good structural specifications and construction took a back seat to "common practice" and economical building.
  • Princeton, NJ – Client experienced water stains in his living room ceiling.  Inspection showed that the builder had installed the base of the shower with a crack in the top lip and that this had allowed water into the floor, also damaging the flake board sub-floor outside the shower.  Repaired water damage; retiled the bathroom.
  • Raritan Boro, NJ - Good maintenance in wet areas like kitchens and baths is essential.  In this case, caulk and grout in a shower had deteriorated and had not been repaired.  As a result, termites got into the floor and shower walls for a banquet.  We reframed the floor system, rebuilt the wall, and then built a new shower.  Then, we gave the bath room a facelift with a new ceramic tile, vinyl floor, and trim, and the painter added the finishing touches.  In additional, our client got a terrific buy on a new washer and dryer through our relationship with Sears.

  • Skillman, NJ – Client’s out-building, featuring a cedar shake roof, houses the property’s well head.  Due to years of wear, the existing roof needed to be replaced.  I installed the new roof with proper furring to allow for good air flow.  In addition, I strengthened the roof structure with collar ties.  Finally, the plan called for a hatch in the roof to allow for easy future removal of the well head.  As planned, the hatch is almost invisible.

  • Belle Mead, NJ – The lack of sun on the North side of the client’s home and close-growing shrubbery had caused the trim on two bay windows to rot.  We repaired the damage with waterproof materials, explained the situation, and encouraged the owners to trim their plantings.
  • Long Valley, NJ – The original builder of a beautiful, 7-year-old home did a nice job for the home owner on the interior, but skimped on the exterior trim.
    • Wood should be at least 6-8" from soil.

    • Even the sides of trim that don't show , should be treated with a good primer coat, exterior paint, and the joints, caulked.

    • Joints between sections should be cut to shed water, rather than allowing it to flow inside the wall.

    • For the right aesthetic and functional use, AzekÒ or similar PVC board is the perfect maintenance-free solution.

    • Believe it or not, our clients and their neighbors tried to have the builder repair his work, but found that he is no longer in business.  This is the reason that we and other professional builders are licensed by the State of N.J., and pay into a warranty fund.

  • Flemington, NJ - Good maintenance is essential.  The ends of the bead board on the front facade were never primed and painted, or caulked.  Water flowing past the dormers and gutters ran down the walls and caused premature damage.
  • Hillsborough, NJ - Replaced a beam under a balcony that had not been installed properly. Replaced two old skylights and repaired an old section of roofing. While replacing an old carpet, clients found damaged flooring. We repaired the flooring and identified the probable source of water for the client.
  • Robbinsville, NJ - Replaced the columns under the client's front porch and the trim on the client's two-story bay window.  Like so many projects, the builder unfortunately failed to properly prime exterior trim or install flashing throughout the neighborhood.
