Helping to Rebuild Along the Gulf Coast
|
On
Monday, the 10th, we got out into the community, not knowing what to
expect. Yes, people are still
living in trailers. Some are still rebuilding, and others have given up
and abandoned their former homes. Apparently, some immoral builders and remodelers
showed up after Katrina, Rita, and Gustav, took a down payment from unsuspecting
homeowners, and promptly breached their contract. This is the reason that
NARI has a vetting process for our members and NJ enacted the Contractor Registration Act. In some cases, well-meaning
volunteers were simply unable to perform professional-quality work, that
regretfully had to be redone.

Solid construction kept
the library standing, even after being hit by 35 foot storm surge and 150 MPH
winds, but it is regretfully not habitable.
